Atlanta Braves

Infrastructure & Placemaking

When the Atlanta Braves wanted to build a 60-acre ballpark and mixed-use entertainment district in a new location, the team needed development strategies to leverage outside resources.

The Braves were pioneering a model for sports teams - commercial real estate as an asset class - and needed experts. On top of this, they needed to build the new district all at once, complete with city streets, apartments, shops, entertainment, offices, and hotel towers. Most importantly, they needed the gamble to pay off and provide them with new revenue streams built around a physical place for fans to experience the brand year-round.

We collaborated with Braves’ leadership on improvements to the surrounding transportation network. We maneuvered the effort through complex regulatory processes and leveraged public funds, all throughout heavy media scrutiny.

Four years later, Braves’ legend Hank Aaron threw out the first pitch. Within a few more years, the Braves were welcoming 10+ million fans to the property each year. In fact, for every game ticket sold, 3.2 fans were on-site, allowing the Braves to diversify revenue streams and drive performance both on and off the field.
